Gujarati

U+0A80 – U+0AFF   (2688–2815)

The Gujarati script is used for the Gujarati language, which belongs to the Indo-Aryan group and is the language of the Indian State of Gujarat and some neighbouring regions.

Microsoft Windows incorporates support for Gujarati Unicode from Windows XP onwards. Users of Macintosh computers running Mac OS 9 can install an Apple Language Kit that provides Gujarati support in various applications. Mac OS X incorporates support for Gujarati from version 10.2 onwards.

Gujarati Web pages with UTF-8 encoding are supported by Internet Explorer 5 (or higher) for Windows and by the iCab Web browser for Macintosh.

The characters that appear in the “Character” columns of the following table depend on the browser that you are using, the fonts installed on your computer, and the browser options you have chosen that determine the fonts used to display particular character sets, encodings or languages.

You can find some or all of the characters in this range in the Windows Unicode fonts aakar, Arial Unicode MS, Chrysanthi Unicode, CN-Arial, Code2000, Free Sans, padmaa, Rekha, Roman Unicode, Samyak, Samyak Gujarati, Saraswati5, Shruti and Sun-ExtA; in the Macintosh OS 9 Unicode fonts Gujarati MT and Gujarati MTS; and in the Macintosh OS X Unicode font Gujarati MT.

To see exactly which characters are included in a particular font, you can use a utility such as Andrew West’s BabelMap, Apple’s TrueEdit, or WunderMoosen’s FontChecker.
