OM-Mount Photomicro Adapter H2 (PM-CAMS2)

The OM-Mount Photomicro Adapter H2 fits OM camera bodies but was not sold as part of the OM system; it was intended for attaching the SC 35 Type 12 camera to Olympus colposcopes and operating microscopes. It is included here because it provides a good way of connecting Canon EOS digital SLR cameras to the Auto Bellows. Some of the Olympus microscope literature refers to it as the PM-CAMS2. It is similar to 3 other mounts:
- OM mount provided with the Auto Bellows (long lever)
- Photomicro Adapter H, for attaching an OM body to the PM-D35-S 35mm SLR Camera Adapter for PM-10 series photomicrographic systems (medium lever)
- PM-CAMS, for attaching an OM body to the PM-BD35A Auto Bellows of the PMT-35, or to the SZH-PT35 Photo Tube that attaches to the side of the SZH-PT Photo Tube for the SZH stereomicroscope
The significant difference between the Adapter H2 and the similar ones is the length of the lever that you press to release the adapter from camera body. On the Adapter H2, this lever is very short, so when used in conjunction with an adapter for Canon EOS digital SLRs, the lever does not clash with the overhanging pentaprism and there is no need to use an extension tube.
The top of the Adapter H2 has the same fitting as the rear of a lens, and attaches to an OM camera body in the normal way. The bottom of the Adapter H2 fits into the rear standard of the Auto Bellows and is locked in place by tightening a screw that fits into the circular groove.

Versions
Only one version is known. The Photomicro Adapter H is very similar, but has a longer lever for releasing the camera.
Going digital
There are no moving or electrical connections between the Photomicro Adapter H2 and the Olympus OM camera body, so it is easy to adapt digital camera bodies that are less deep than the OM, and Canon EOS digital SLRs are often used. The most suitable are full-frame bodies such as the EOS 5D Mark II, Mark III and Mark IV and the EOS 6D, because they have a sensor the same size as 35mm film.
Olympus OM camera bodies and the SC 35 Type 12 scientific camera have a register distance of 46 mm from the film plane to the front surface of the mount for lenses. Canon EOS digital SLRs have a corresponding distance of 44 mm, and so they need an adapter 2.0 mm thick when they are used to replace an Olympus body.
