Focusing rails

Focusing rails are often built into an extension bellows unit, and are used to focus at high magnifications by using the complete lens+bellows+camera assembly. Focusing in this way does not affect the magnification that you have set by adjusting the extension of the bellows

Focusing rails are also available separately, and can be useful for focusing with a macro lens at around life size.

A focusing rail can also help to improve the balance of a bellows unit or of a lens with a long extension when mounted on a tripod.
