Help – KLIC Index of Common Names

This Key Letter In Context index includes all of the common names in the Compendium, including alternative and non-preferred common names.

It is intended to help with devising new common names for pesticides, by making it possible to see exactly which character strings have already been used.

It is also useful if you can only remember a fragment of a name – just look up the fragment in the second column, and you will see all of the names in which it occurs.

The layout is similar to a central gutter KLIC index, but with the gutter replaced by a vertical border between 2 adjacent table cells.

For each common name, each possible pair of strings is generated, for example producing the following 8 entries for the 8-letter name carbaryl:

 carbaryl
c arbaryl
ca rbaryl
car baryl
carb aryl
carba ryl
carbar yl
carbary l

The resulting table is sorted firstly on column 2, and secondly on column 1.

carbaryl
carbaryl
carbaryl
carbaryl
carbaryl
carbaryl
carbaryl
carbaryl

The sorting order is character-by-character, and all characters are used in sorting, including space, punctuation and numerals. The characters are sorted as follows:

space
(
)
,
-
0–9
a–z
α
β

Characters with accents are sorted as though the accents were not present.

The complete table is too big for a single Web page, and so it is divided into one page for each letter of the alphabet.
