Help – Index of IUPAC Systematic Names

This index includes all of the names in the IUPAC field on the data sheets; it does not include the uninverted Chemical Abstracts names or the IUPAC PINs.

It includes names formed according to the 1979 Rules (current when ISO 1750:1981 was prepared), names formed according to the rules for general nomenclature in the 2013 Rules, and some older names.

It also contains IUPAC names for the simple salt and ester derivatives that are listed in the Notes field on the data sheets.

Use the navigation buttons just below the title to display a list of names that begin with a particular letter. For example, click the “G” button to see the names that begin with that letter.

The primary sorting order is letter by letter, ignoring locants and stereochemical identifiers, which produces the following order:

methylarsonic acid
methyl bromide
2-(1-methylbutyl)-4,6-dinitrophenol
methyl 3,4-dichlorocarbanilate
2-methyl-3-furanilide
methyl isothiocyanate
methylmercury benzoate

Locants and stereochemical identifiers are only used in sorting when the letter-by-letter sorting gives the same position for different names.

Just beneath each systematic name is the corresponding common name; click a common name to display its data sheet.
